Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. Denarius (Subaeratus, 18 mm, 2.20 g, 5 h), a contemporary plated imitation of an issue from Lugdunum, irregular mint, after 2 BC. LIVATOR[...]VI A F PATER P[...] Laureate head of Augustus to right. Rev. AVGVSTI[...]TRD / C L CAESARE[...] Caius and Lucius standing facing, each togate and resting hand on shield; behind each shield a spear; between them, lituus and simpulum. Cf. BMC 540, Cohen 43 and RIC 210 (for prototype). Beautifully toned. Light scratches and with minor breaks in plating, otherwise, very fine.
